Good resolutions for 2010

Here are a few good resolutions for 2010 for myself and for my muso buddies!

1)     Delete all negative people from your address book (even when they are talented).  You don’t want to be a slave of that kind of people!

2)     Spend a lot of hours on your music.  Practice your instrument daily, compose or arrange every day.

3)     Be very demanding towards yourself and to others.  Try to achieve the highest possible standard but don’t improve your product endlessly.  Know how to stop.

4)     Don’t be aggressive, be assertive!  Say what is on your mind.  You will

5)     Relax.  Never make a scandal in the studio or on stage.  Calmness will save you (even when you think people treat you badly)

6)     Go out and meet new partners to work with.  Grab any opportunity.

7)     Play gigs.

8)     Stay positive.

9)     Make mistakes and learn from them.

10)  Don’t be desperate.  Keep searching until you find the right musical partner (record company, producer, musicians, etc.)

11)  Listen to people’s criticism but make all final decisions yourself.  Once you made a decision, don’t go back.  Follow your gut feeling.

12)  Don’t talk, act!

13)  Stop complaining about how badly you are treated by the music industry (record companies, A&R people, record buying public, …).

14)  Enjoy small victories (e.g. radio play on a small internet radio).

15)  Pay your musical partners for their work.  People who don’t ask money are usually not reliable.  Be grateful towards people who work for free AND are reliable.

16)  Be modest.  You’re never too old to learn.  Stay with both feet on the ground.

17)  Use Myspace comment board for what it is designed to.  You’re supposed to comment on the artist and not to promote yourself.

18)  Don’t be jealous about the success of other artists.  Support your colleagues!
